In the United States, areas under rice cultivation increasing rapidly over time due to increases in long-grain rice production. The grain types grown across the United States include long, medium, and short-grain types. Production of rice in the United States increasing steadily due to an increase in acreage under rice cultivation. According to FAO, the production of rice in the United States was 8.0 million metric tons in 2017, which increased to 10.2 million metric tons in 2018. Increasing production is due to increase acreage under rice cultivation which accounts for 1.17 million hectares as compared to 0.96 million hectares last year. The United States As Major Exporter

The country is the fifth largest rice exporter, wherein rice exports account for about 35% of the total use of US rice. The major exporting partners for the US within the region are Mexico Japan and Haiti. The country exports rough rice, parboiled rice, brown rice, and fully milled rice. The regular imports of rice account for nearly 10% of the US food use of rice. According to ITC Trade, the quantity of rice exported from the United States amounted to 3.6 million metric tons in 2019 as compared to previous year where exports stood with 3.1 million metric tons.
