Tomatoes, onion and eggplants dominate the Egyptian vegetable market with a huge production. According to FAO, the production of tomatoes reached 6.7 million metric ton in 2019 followed by onions 3.0 million metric ton, and eggplant with 1.1 million metric ton of production. With the huge support from the government in association with USAID, it is enabling farmers to achieve high production volume. The growing consumption of vegetables in the country is enhancing the growth of production in the last few years.

Increasing Export Contributes to the Market Growth

The export of fruits and Vegetables is increasing from Egypt. According to ITC Trade, the export of fruits valued at USD 1,416,762 thousand in 2019, which is been growing steadily. Mango exports have risen to 15,211 tons in 2019. The majority of fruits and vegetables were exported to the European Union in accordance with the international quality standards affirming that fruit and vegetable export hassle-free without any hindrance.

Egypt has succeeded in opening new vegetables and fruits markets, especially in China, the European Union, and East Asian countries. Additionally, Egypt's success in lifting the ban on Egyptian agricultural exports in some countries, which confirms the safety of Egyptian procedures and thus boosting the Egyptian fruits and vegetable market.
