Agriculture in Oman is projected to register a CAGR of 2.4% during the forecast period (2021-2026).

Agriculture in Oman has registered positive growth during the pandemic outbreak, Covid-19. Agriculture is considered the pillar of economic growth, has resulted in an immediate response from the national government to ensure food safety and security in the country. According to Oman's agriculture ministry, despite Covid-19, the agriculture and fisheries sector has seen a growth of 9.8% in 2019-2020. Hence, Oman's agriculture market has witnessed impressive growth in the pandemic period.

According to FAO, The total amount of agricultural land present in Oman is about 1.4 million hectares in 2019, which is 1.5% of the total land area. Oman has planted dates in 25,125 hectares of land and 61,986 hectares for all other crops that include cereals, oilseeds, vegetables, and fruits. Key Market Trends

Increase in Date Palm Cultivation

Date palm is the major crop grown in Oman among all the crops. It constitutes 80.0% of total fruit crops produced and 45.0% of the total agriculture area in the country. According to FAO, the country produced 372,572.0 metric ton of dates in 2019 which is approximatley 3,000 metric ton more than the previous year. The area under date cultivation increased from 25,125 hectares in 2018 to 25,382 hectares in 2019. The main reason for such a significant increase in date cultivation is due to the global demand for Oman dates and the suitable climate for the cultivation of date palm. Tomatoes and other vegetables are other major crops cultivated in Oman.
