Rise in Application of Biopesticides is Driving the Market

The increase in demand for organic products has resulted in farmers turning their farmlands into organic, which requires the use of biopesticides. Bio-insecticides is the largest and fastest-growing segment of the biopesticides industry in Vietnam due to its higher application in production of rice. The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the past had called for a ban on certain insecticides in rice production as part of its new Action Plan to reduce planthopper damage to the rice crop in Asia, including Viet Nam. All of this has led to a shift toward increased use of bioinsecticides. The development of resistance to chemical insecticides and concerns over the deleterious effects of chemicals on environmental and human safety has provided a strong impetus for the development of microbial control agents in the integrated pest management in Vietnam.

High Adoption of Pesticides in Grains & Cereals is Driving the Market

In Vietnam, Pesticides find its application in crops such as cereals & grains, fruits & vegetables, oilseeds & pulses, and other crops. The demand for pesticides is driven by its easy availability and the effectiveness in pest management. According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam spent USD 989 million in 2017 on imported pesticide and materials, up by 36.4% from 2016. Paddy field rice cultivation accounts for about 50% of crop protection demand in Vietnam. Major companies such as Sumitomo chemical offers crop protection range in Vietnam Market that mainly includes paddy applications. As the second-largest rice exporting country after Thailand, its demand for paddy pesticides, in particular, is projected to grow appreciably which in turn will boost the Vietnam Crop Protection Market during the forecast period.
