The European Union is the largest importer of dried grapes in the world, with a market share of more than 50% of the world imports as the dried grapes are the most consumed dried fruit in the European market, accounting for 40% of all the dried fruit imports. Approximately 70% of all the European imports of dried grapes are majorly from developing countries.

The import of dried grapes has been increasing annually from various countries. The major importers of dried grapes are United Kingdom, Germany, India, Netherlands, Japan, Canada, France, China, Brazil. The United Kingdom is the major importer of dried grapes, with USD 222,006 thousand in 2019. The country alone accounts for 12% of global imports. Germany, India, Netherlands, and Japan accounts for 9.5%, 6.9%, 6.5%, and 6%, respectively, of the total dried grapes imports. This is mainly due to the high consumption of dried grapes either directly or through various cuisines. The changing consumer preference, coupled with the health benefits associated with the dried grapes, is the major factor driving the import of dried grapes.

Increasing Consumption in India

India and China are the major consumers of dried grapes in the Asia-Pacific region. The per capita consumption of dried grapes in India is around 0.1 kilograms in 2017, and the consumption of dried grapes in India is increasing annually, with 124.03 thousand metric tons in 2015. This has grown to 134.24 thousand metric tons in 2017, which is an increase of 8.2% compared to 2015. Around 22.5% of the total grapes produced in the country are dried into raisins. The country is dependent on the imports as domestic production within the state is unable to satiate the demand for dried grapes.
